Samsung Galaxy S3 owners in the U.S. can expect to receive the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean OS update for their device before the end of November. The first series of carrier updates for the Galaxy S3 is expected to kick off this week.
According to Android Police, a leaked document reveals that Sprint is expected to kick off its Galaxy S3 Android 4.3 update rollout on Wednesday (Nov. 6). Not too far behind is carrier AT&T, with an expected rollout date of Nov. 13. Meanwhile, Verizon is expected to start its Galaxy S3 update on Nov. 22 and T-Mobile branded Galaxy S3 will begin receiving updates on Nov. 25.
U.S. Cellular also carries the Samsung Galaxy S3, although no update release date information appears on the leaked list. Android Police reported Tuesday (Nov. 6) that U.S.Cellular’s plans to rollout over-the-air (OTA) Android 4.3 updates for another Samsung device, the Galaxy S4 on Friday (Nov. 8). It’s fair to speculate that the Galaxy S3 update could arrive within the next few weeks.
As Samsung promised, all Galaxy S3, S4 and Note 2 devices will be updated to Android 4.3 Jelly Bean by the end of December. The purpose of the rollout is to provide Samsung S3 smartphones with support for the Galaxy Gear smartwatch. International devices have already began receiving Android 4.3 updates and devices in the U.S. should begin receiving OTA updates soon.
Along with Bluetooth Low-Energy required for use with the Galaxy Gear watch, Android 4.3 Jelly Bean brings about additional software changes. Galaxy S3 owners can expect to see enhancements to the TouchWiz UI, the camera app, system settings and across-the-board functionality.
